Physical activity and diet are an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Most people know this but don't know how to make changes. Lifestyle changes are difficult and can be a difficult task without some assistance. My goal as a Nutrition & Lifestyle Consultant is to give you the tools you need to make healthy choices and to improve your quality of life. The first step toward improvement is to acknowledge your current status. I will ask you detailed questions about your holistic health, including all 7 dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, social, spiritual, occupational, environmental, and intellectual. From our discussion, together we will set goals and discuss ways to reach your goals and improve your current nutrition and lifestyle habits.

Nutrition & Performance:

  • Dietary Recommendations - What are the current dietary recommendations? How much carbohydrate, fat, and protein do you really need? There is a lot of misinformation floating around about nutrition. We are constantly bombarded with the latest diet and fitness trends through the tv, magazine articles, news reports, internet, radio, billboards, etc. With so much contradicting advice it's difficult to know what is actually true. My goal is to help you fully understand the dietary guidelines based on scientific evidence and to dispel any nutrition myths.
  • Nutrition Surrounding Exercise - Did you know that the foods you eat before, during, and after exercise can greatly impact your performance? Learning the physiologic changes that occur during exercise can help athletes understand why nutrition plays such a central role. For example, during prolonged endurance exercise failure to take in carbohydrate early causes fatigue to set in. Similarly, post-exercise there is a 30-40 minutes window of time where food intake is crucial for adequate recovery from exercise. Again, there is a lot of false information out there regarding what to consume during exercise. However, the scientific evidence is very clear about what does and does not work for performance. 
  • Nutrition for Performance - What you eat on a day to day  basis can impact your performance, both positively and negatively. Nutrition is often neglected, resulting in failure of an athlete to reach their full potential. Each individual is unique, and there is no 'one size fits all' recommendation for what to consume. My goal is to provide you with the framework to make healthy choices that can enhance performance. Your job will be to fill in that framework with the foods that work best for you.
